Students Honored By Western New York Foreign Language Educators' Council
Many students from Hoover Middle School and Kenmore West High School who studied German during the 2014-15 school year were honored by the Western New York Foreign Language Educators’ Council (WNYFLEC) for outstanding effort and achievement in learning a new language.
From Kenmore West High School, award winners were Sean McDonough and Andrew Widmer from German teacher John Carlino’s class. From Hoover Middle School, award winners included Hannah Crittenden, Madeline Crosby, Alexa Czerniejewski, Hayley Dubuque, Aria Elling, Joseph Ferrantini, Lennon Greco, Ryan Miller, Judy Siwiec and Victoria Smith from German teacher Anne Crusan’s class.
The awards were presented to students at the eighth annual Student, Teacher and Recognition (STAR) Award Ceremony, hosted by WNYFLEC at Michael’s Banquet Facility in Hamburg. Approximately 300 students, family members and foreign language educators were in attendance at the dinner ceremony.
The awards were based on nominations from teachers. The criteria not only included outstanding effort and achievement in foreign language study, but also an appreciation of the value of studying world languages and cultures and an interest in pursuing it further.
