Ken-East Students to Perform in Two Special Concerts at UB's Slee Hall
The first concert will include the Kenmore East Symphonic Wind Ensemble and Concert Band as well as individual student chamber ensembles and the UB Concert Band. The formal concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28 at Slee Hall and is free to the public, and the chamber ensembles will begin performing at 7 p.m.
The second concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9 with Buffalo’s Hutchinson Central Technical High School band and the celebrated Buffalo Silver Band at Slee Hall as part of the Buffalo Silver Band’s Gala Centennial Capstone Concert to mark its 100th season. Pre-sale tickets for the May 9 performance are $8 for adults and $5 for seniors and students; adult tickets are $10 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at buffalosilverband.org.
The April 28 concert will be preceded by a clinic for the Kenmore East Symphonic Winds ensemble at UB, which will enable them to work with acclaimed clarinetist and UB music professor Jean Kopperud. Similarly, the May 9 performance will be preceded by a clinic with distinguished guest conductor Stephen Bulla.
The educational partnership with Kenmore East High School, Hutchinson Central Technical High School, and Bulla was made possible by a grant awarded to the Buffalo Silver Band.
It’s a busy time of year for the Kenmore East High School ensembles. Students performed for the Kenmore East High School Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on April 17 and participated in a free three-hour blues workshop at the Riviera Theatre sponsored by Music is Art on April 18. Bulldog Brass, a student jazz fusion/rock ensemble, performed the following evening for TRIMANIA, a music celebration festival to support the Buffalo Arts Studio, and students performed again on April 20 at a Western New York PGA Spring Meeting at Transit Valley Country Club. On May 21, chamber groups will perform at a luncheon at Crazy Jakes in Tonawanda, all band members will take part in the Memorial Day Parade on May 25, and the final concert of the year will take place on June 9.
