Hoover Elementary Students Seek Support on a Variety of Initiatives
Students on the Hoover Elementary School Student Council, led by teachers Jason O'Connor and Katie Wood, are asking for school- and community-wide help with a variety initiatives and causes.
The Student Council will be collecting new baby items for families in need in the community. Items such as diapers, wipes, sleepers, and thermometers will be collected until Wednesday, May 6.
The Student Council will also be gratefully accepting gently used books until Monday, May 11 to be sold at the Student Council Book Sale on Thursday, May 14 to benefit the Hoover Elementary School Home School Association. They will also collect pull tabs from pop cans to benefit the Special Olympics through May 29.
Finally, through May 29, students will be collecting new and gently used clothing as well as toiletries and school supplies to donate to the Ken-Ton Closet, which will distribute them to families in need throughout Kenmore and the Town of Tonawanda.
“We are excited that the Hoover Elementary Student Council has decided to take on such a wide range of worthwhile causes,” O’Connor said. “It demonstrates the high level of citizenship that Hoover students exhibit on a regular basis.”
The Hoover Elementary School Student Council is comprised of fourth- and fifth-graders who are elected by the student body. Throughout the year, student council members engage in a variety of community service and charitable initiatives as well as bringing ideas and suggestions from their classmates to the attention of the principal.
